As an added highlight of our annual Home & Garden Tour, we are including some of the most important public gardens in our area:  Weymouth, Campbell House, Sandhills Horticultural Gardens.  We are attempting to point out the key role our landscape has played in the development of community, of a reverence for this unique micro-climate, and an ongoing respect for the local environment.  

We occupy one of the ten most endangered ecosystems on the planet, the Longleaf Pine Ecosystem.  Our local garden clubs have played an important role in shaping the cultural landscape of our Sandhills with respect to our Longleaf Pine forests, advocating for beautification and horticultural education projects for generations.  Our local garden clubs have literally shaped our community, bringing to bear their political influence to reshape municipal building plans and highway construction, to lining our public spaces with memorial dogwoods in honor of our military veterans. Restoration, preservation and education of the communities these clubs serve has over these years resulted in a deeper understanding of our individual relationship with this effortsrare landscape. 

Drawing close to our 70th year of demonstrating this respect for our local landscape, the Southern Pines Garden Club is urging our tour-goers to include such highlights as the Weeping Cherry Trees of Weymouth's historic gardens, the innovative use of native species within the award-winning Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, and the romance of the azalea plantings surrounding Campbell House.
